Reality Bites

Last week, in between Emme’s cat naps and screaming fits…

I made an attempt to try and reconnect with the rest of functioning society, by visiting a few of my favorite blogs.

Big Mistake.

No, scratch that…

HUGE Mistake.

One blogger decided to feature a website she stumbled across called “The Glow”

The appeal of the site is that it offers “a glimpse into the world of inspiring and fashionable moms”…

Ooh… right up my alley, I’m thinking… seeing as I’m a MOM now, and all.

But then upon visiting the site, I was smacked in the face with loads of magazine worthy photos of fabulous, well-dressed, and gorgeous young moms

Who all appear to have their respective $hit together.

There were photos like THIS.

The glow 1

The glow 2

Let’s not forget THIS…

The glow 3

The glow 4

**Note:  Not one of these women is CRYING.

Unlike the fabulous and fashionable ladies featured above who CLEARLY know what they are doing…

I am still very much learning how to navigate my new world.

And these photos made me want to throw my loudly humming breast-pump at the computer screen.

For a first-timer, I’m doing okay

But one thing is for certain…

If I ever had hopes and dreams of someday being featured on a website naming me an inspiring and fashionable mom,

Those hopes are fleeting.

Because if I’m keeping it real…

Someone would have a really tough time touching up THIS photo to add to the site.

New life 4

Inspiring… not so much.

Fashionable… nope.

But I have to cut myself some slack…because it’s only been five weeks.

And at least the baby looks well-rested.

Till the next time I can get away for a minute… Happy Decorating!

Great post, and yeah, you are too hard on yourself. I saw your beautiful home and beautiful child just weeks ago. You have it all together girlfriend!

lol love it. the scene on the bed looks familiar. as for the glow, i spent hours one day reading every single story. kinda loved some of them and kinda wanted to punch some of them. embarrassed to admit that i’ve gone back several times to see if a new one is posted. apparently i like to torture myself.

Rita I love you . I am so proud of you. You are a real and true and awesome mama, you are not fake and you tell it how it is, that makes you a real life inspirational woman is and as far as fashion goes girl you got me beat any day of the week. Love to you and Emme and Eric.

let’s face it, ella is 8 months now and i still maybe only get a few showers a week. images like that do make us cry and we barely have enough tears left for them. raise your glass (or breastpumps) to keepin’ it real!

  9. Kari says:

Marita, you look fabulous! Those are fake set ups with $1000 + designer dresses brought in and a hair stylist, makeup artist and clothing stylist, special lighting and photography. Hell if we all had that we’d all be stunning all the time! Believe me, they do not look like that in ‘normal’ life….

I read an article called “Exposing The Glow.” It said that all of the mom’s drown themselves in percocet and white wine and had a wet nurse and 2 nanny’s onsite at all times. It also said that most of the moms weren’t even holding babies they just photoshopped them in later. So, you’re doing great.

  11. Marita – love it! I’m six weeks in wth my SECOND child and it’s even harder to get my sh$t together! Today I went shopping for a new interview outfit and only came home with a new pair of flip flops to show for it. They are gold and sparkly and I love them… but come on!
    yours in solidarity,

  12. Heidi says:

Well said Marita! I love this!

Hahahaha!!! DIED at wanting to “throw your loudly humming breast pump at the computer screen.” So freaking funny. If it’s any consolation, from an outside perspective, you totally appear to have your own shit together.
If I ever come over to your house and see you walking around in a sheer frock posing with Emme like a statue on your sofa, I’m going to punch you in the face. You’re way cooler than those douche bags. 🙂

…Ok… I’m closet jealous of the Glow moms.

Marita you couldnt be more beautiful in that picture , you may not feel that way, but you look that way……and who needs everything in its place and all together…. did you see how great your boobs look??? whats the problem……
